As part of its 2025 supervisory program, the National Assembly will conduct a thematic oversight of environmental protection nationwide. This oversight will cover the period from implementing the Environmental Protection Law No. 72/2020/QH14 until December 31, 2024.

The oversight subjects include the Government, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, relevant ministries and agencies, People's Councils and People's Committees of 15 provinces and centrally governed cities, and relevant organizations and individuals.

The oversight will focus on promulgating and improving policies and laws on environmental protection and implementing these policies and regulations.

The primary objective is to assess the issuance and enforcement of environmental protection policies and laws, focusing on evaluating the implementation of Environmental Protection Law No. 72/2020/QH14 and related resolutions of the National Assembly and the National Assembly Standing Committee. The oversight will identify shortcomings, limitations, causes, and responsibilities of organizations and individuals. Lessons learned will be drawn to enhance the effectiveness of environmental protection policy and law enforcement.

Based on this evaluation, the National Assembly aims to propose recommendations to improve environmental protection policies and laws, enhance implementation efficiency, and address the accountability of relevant organizations and individuals.

The National Assembly issued Resolution No. 131/2024/QH15 to implement this program, establishing a specialized oversight delegation titled "The Implementation of Environmental Protection Policies and Laws Since the 2020 Environmental Protection Law Came into Effect."
