On the morning of November 15, the project "Hue - Plastic-free City in Central Viet Nam" (sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund - Norway through WWF – Viet Nam) held a workshop to conclude the project for 2021-2024 and expand it in 2025.

Mr. Van Ngoc Thinh, the Director of the World Wildlife Fund Viet Nam, said that the Plastic-Free City program is an initiative by WWF International to connect cities and tourist destinations to fight plastic pollution.

Through the program, WWF supports localities in achieving the goal of zero plastic waste in nature by 2030. Hue is the 7th city in Vietnam to commit to becoming a Plastic-free City.

Mr. Van Ngoc Thinh summarized the 3-year cooperation period with Hue City. To increase waste classification at source, the project activities have achieved many outstanding figures: collecting 570 tons of plastic waste lost to the environment, reaching 265% of the set target, synchronously equipping 295 points of plastic waste and solid waste classification bins, nearly 26,000 households were propagandized about waste classification at source, 742 key propagandists in 31 localities, minimizing and classifying waste at source in tourism, collecting waste at source in agriculture and aquaculture...

Mr.Van Ngoc Thinh, the Director of  WWF-Viet Nam, delivered the opening speech at the workshop held in Hue City.

WWF-Viet Nam's plastic connection and reduction initiative aims to have no plastic waste discharged into nature by 2030. Hue has also become the 7th city to commit to reducing 30% of plastic waste lost to the environment by 2024. With the direction of developing synchronous and modern infrastructure while still preserving typical cultural values, Hue is highly appreciated by many international organizations for building green and sustainable city.

Although the project ends at the end of 2024, WWF will continue to accompany the new Hue city and relevant parties to implement expansion activities in 2025 to effectively promote the plastic-reducing urban model, spreading the results of the Project more widely to other areas of Thua Thien-Hue province. The Director of WWF-Vietnam said that with funding from the Norwegian people, extending the project to 2025 is an encouraging achievement, helping Hue continue striving to become a bright spot in sustainable development and green tourism in Southeast Asia.
