The Vietnam Department of Survey, Mapping and Geographic Information (DOSMVN) and the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) have signed an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding on survey and mapping until 2024.
Accordingly, in the coming period, the two sides will focus on cooperation in four main areas including: Development of a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS); Construction of national spatial data infrastructure (NSDI); Using geospatial information to minimize natural disaster damage; Advanced standard system, regulations on survey and mapping and geospatial information data.
GSI President - Mr. Noda Masaru hopes that, in the coming period, the two sides will continue to promote cooperation through JICA's training programs to exchange experiences. At the same time, they will together continue to promote the implementation of the project "Strengthening management capacity and operating the network of Viet Nam satellite navigation stations" using JICA funding.
In 2020, with the financial support of GSI, PASCO experts are cooperating with DOSMVN in using VNGEONET data in combination with InSAR technology to monitor the subsidence phenomenon in Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong River Delta provinces. After this pilot project, Japanese experts can transfer technology and experience to DOSMVN in processing VNGEONET data combined with InSAR analysis.
