Finalizing the draft Strategy for surveying and cartography sector development

The draft Strategy is being developed by the Deparment of Survey, Mapping and Geographic Information of Viet Nam. At the online meeting chaired by Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa on 12 May 2021, MONRE agencies’ leader representatives including Departments of Planning - Finance, Science and Technology, Information Technology on Natural Resources and Environment, Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, and Ministry Administrative Office gave comments and recommendations to finalize the draft.

According to the Deparment of Survey, Mapping and Geographic Information of Viet Nam, the final draft was submitted to the Government for the first time on October 30, 2020. At present, it is being revised in accordance with the received comments and recommendations from relevant ministries and sectors. Comments and recommendations focus on main contents of the strategy, for instance integrating the strategy into the natural resources and environment sector development strategy; adding contents relating to socialization of activities to ensure effectiveness, saving state resources, etc. Accordingly, some contents have been revised and added, particularly, setting new vision for the strategy until 2045; adding international cooperation activity; encouraging talented youth; adding an objective until 2030 to ensure 100 percent spatial data to be connected and shared, and strive to reach development level of developed countries by 2045.   

In addition, scientific research, application and technology development, international cooperation will be also prioritized, particularly cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big data analysis in receiving, updating, processing and providing information, data and surveying and mapping related products and so on. Representatives from relevant MONRE agencies actively discussed and contributed to draft strategy’s contents in order to ensure scientific basis, feasibility and meet the practical state management requirements in the surveying and mapping sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa asked the Deparment of Survey, Mapping and Geographic Information of Viet Nam to coordinate with relevant agencies revising the strategy in accordance to the country’s actual development situation. The Department was also requested to update  the newest Party’s views, goals, targets, guidelines and policies defined in the 13th Party Congress’ documents, paticularly, reviewing views, goals, tasks and solutions to ensure compatibility with provisions of the Law on Surveying and Mapping 2018.

Strategy for the development of survey and mapping until 2045

By 2045, Viet Nam's surveying and mapping sector will become a modern basic survey sector, on a par with developed countries. That is the goal in the Strategy on development of surveying and mapping sector in Viet Nam and build the national geospatial data infrastructure by 2030, with a vision to 2045, which has just been approved by the Government in Resolution No. /NQ-CP.
