On the morning of October 18, the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue Province signed a Cooperation Agreement with the World Wide Fund for Nature in Viet Nam (WWF-Viet Nam) to implement programs and projects related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

The agreement focuses on critical areas such as supporting conservation efforts, enhancing biodiversity, developing value chains, and improving the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities. It also covers environmental protection, landscape conservation, implementing a citywide waste segregation program, and managing plastic waste.

The partnership is seen as a vital foundation for establishing a cooperation framework between Thua Thien - Hue Province and WWF for the 2025-2030 period, aimed at mobilizing more resources to support long-term biodiversity conservation and sustainable development projects in the province.

In recent years, WWF and its Viet Nam office have implemented various projects in Thua Thien - Hue, contributing to the sustainable management of natural resources, raising awareness, and improving the livelihoods of local communities. These efforts have helped reduce illegal logging and wildlife poaching while promoting the sustainable conservation of the province's biodiversity.

One notable initiative is the "Hue – Central Viet Nam Plastic Reduction Cities" project, which has significantly impacted the landscape and environment of Thua Thien - Hue Province and Hue City. The project has supported waste segregation at source, collection, and treatment and enhanced the recovery of recyclable materials from landfills. This has helped raise awareness and change local behavior regarding plastic waste, contributing significantly to making Hue greener, brighter, and cleaner.

Through WWF, Thua Thien - Hue has connected with key international partners such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). These organizations have supported forest management, nature conservation, climate change adaptation, and promoting Thua Thien - Hue's natural beauty and heritage globally.
