Launching two climate change adaptation projects in Thua Thien Hue

On December 19, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province and the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency jointly organized the Launching Ceremony of 2 projects: "Financing for resilience - Promoting climate-smart agriculture and financial inclusion in Thua Thien Hue province to improve the resilience of farmers, especially women" (VIE/039) and the project "Adaptation and resilience to climate change in Thua Thien Hue province" (VIE301).

These two projects are co-funded by the Government of Luxembourg and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Accordingly, Project VIE/039 - "Financing for resilience - Promoting climate-smart agriculture and financial inclusion in Thua Thien Hue province to improve the resilience of farmers, especially women," has a total funding of 2 million Euros, implemented over 2 years. The VIE/301 project - "Adaptation and resilience to climate change in Thua Thien Hue Province," has a total funding of 10 million USD, implemented over 5 years.

The goal of the above two projects is to enhance the economic resilience and climate change adaptation of farming households, with special attention to women; improve the warning system to help people and authorities better prevent and respond to climate hazards; restore 400 hectares of coastal forests to protect the ecosystem and deploy sustainable value chains...

In addition, the VIE/301 project not only aims to increase adaptive capacity and reduce vulnerability to climate change but also hopes to make Hue a model of climate change adaptation in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh highly appreciated the achievements of the projects that the people and the Government of Luxembourg have sponsored and implemented in the province over the past 17 years. The provincial leaders hope to continue to receive the support of the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency and international organizations in the project implementation process, as well as support in attracting and mobilizing funding sources to implement large-scale projects in fields such as sustainable forestry management, ecosystem-based adaptation focusing on Tam Giang lagoon and coastal areas; attracting finance for climate change response from the private sector...
