On October 23, the People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, in partnership with the Dutch International Investment Fund, inaugurated a wastewater collection, treatment, and drainage facility in the new urban area of Phu My (Phu My Town, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province), with a capacity of 29,700 cubic meters per day.
To strengthen diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two governments, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Kingdom of the Netherlands signed a funding agreement on March 30, 2016, for the Phu My New Urban Area Wastewater Collection, Treatment, and Drainage Project in Tan Thanh District (now Phu My Town), covering implementation, operation, and maintenance phases.
Construction of the project began in August 2019, with a total investment of over 818 billion VND (equivalent to 33,494,694 euros). Of this, over 9.98 million euros (nearly 252 billion VND, or 30.73%) came from the Netherlands as a non-refundable ODA grant, while the provincial budget provided the remaining funding.
Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, noted that the project’s operation will enhance infrastructure, address pollution in canals and streams, and contribute to a sustainable, green, clean, and beautiful urban environment in Phu My Town.
The project includes various components such as an intake pumping station and flow measurement system, grit, and oil separation facilities, contact and mixing tanks, sedimentation tanks, chlorine contact tanks, discharge chambers, return/excess sludge pumps, a gravity sludge thickener, a chemical storage house, a sludge dewatering facility, and a clean water pump station. According to the Project Management Board for Civil and Industrial Works, which oversees the project, treated wastewater will meet Standard A under QCVN 14:2008/BTNMT for domestic wastewater quality.
