Sustainable Development of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark

From June 26 to 30, the expert delegation of the UNESCO Global Geopark Council conducted a re-appraisal of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark.

The delegation was led by Mr. Jianping Zhang - Vice Chairman of International Commission on Geoheritage (IUGS), Vice President of UNESCO Global Geoparks Council as leader; Mr. Marekazu Ohno - Member of the Geoparks Subcommittee, National UNESCO Committee of Japan as a member. The delegation will conduct field assessment at Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark from June 26 to 30, 2023

After the field trip, the expert delegation will meet with the People's Committee of Dak Nong province. In the process of re-appraisal of destinations in the UNESCO Global Geopark Dak Nong, the team of experts will collect documents and experience a variety of activities. From there, experts made suggestions and recommendations to contribute to the further development of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark.

The results of the re-evaluation of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark will be discussed and voted on by the Global Geoparks Council in November 2023.

It is known that, after 3 years of being registered, Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark has initially built a system of facilities on 3 tourist routes to experience geology. At the same time, strictly implement the conservation of landscape, geological and cultural values, and plans to improve people's livelihoods, especially with communication, education, environmental and tourism links and international cooperation, participating in Geopark network activities. Thereby, contributing to raising community awareness about Geopark, enhancing the role and position of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark on the domestic and international tourist map.

Enhancing international cooperation on Geology and Minerals

The draft Law on Geology and Minerals is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for approval during the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly, scheduled for late October. Notably, one of the critical elements of the draft law focuses on international integration and cooperation in geology and minerals, underscoring Viet Nam's emphasis on this area in the current phase.

Joining Hands to Preserve Global Geological Heritage in the Fight Against Climate Change

As part of the 8th International Conference of the Asia-Pacific UNESCO Global Geoparks Network (APGN) held in Cao Bằng from September 5 to 17, 2024, a ceremony was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network (GGN). The conference also re-evaluated geoparks that have already been recognized, while promoting the future activities of these geoparks.

Viet Nam Gains Another UNESCO Global Geopark

On September 8, 2024, within the framework of the 8th International Conference of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network for the Asia-Pacific Region, the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council met, evaluated, and voted to recognize Lang Son Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
