On the morning of October 16, in Hanoi, The Viet Nam Agency of Seas and Islands (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) coordinated with the Ocean Policy Secretariat (The Cabinet Office of Japan) to organize the Viet Nam – Japan: Marine Economic Policy Dialogue in 2023.

Speaking at the opening of the Program, Director of The Viet Nam Agency of Seas and Islands Nguyen Duc Toan affirmed that the 2023 Marine Policy Dialogue is an important activity to develop the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of sea and ocean policy between Viet Nam's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Cabinet Office of Japan, signed on August 10, 2018 during the working visit of the Prime Minister of Viet Nam in Japan. This is the first direct dialogue between the Japanese Ocean Policy Secretariat and The Viet Nam Agency of Seas and Islands.

Expressing his welcoming on organizing the Dialogue, Secretary General of the National Ocean Policy Secretariat, Mr. MIYAZAWA Koi-chi said that the dialogue program is very meaningful in 2023 - the year celebrates the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Japan.

According to Mr. MIYAZAWA Koi-chi, Secretary General of the National Ocean Policy Secretariat, with a long coastline and rows of pearl islands, Japan always considers sustainable use of resources and protection of the marine environment as the country's most important tasks. Accordingly, the Japanese Government has relied on the inheritance and effective use of resources to build a policy strategy for sea and ocean management for many years.

Mr. MIYAZAWA Koi-chi hopes that through today's dialogue program, the two sides will raise topics to be published for cooperation and coordination on marine economy by The Viet Nam Agency of Seas and Islands in coordination with the National Ocean Policy Secretariat in the near future.

At the dialogue program, delegates heard about reports such as: Overview of maritime policies, laws and marine economic development of Viet Nam; some difficulties and questions in the assignment of sea areas, especially the assignment of sea areas for investigation and survey of offshore wind power; some issues of controlling, preventing and reducing marine environmental pollution; general manager of Japan's maritime policy; blue ocean economic experience in Japan; Japan's offshore wind power incentive policy; Japan's experience in detection and treatment of marine pollution and protection of marine ecosystems; update on the implementation of Japan's blue ocean economy.

At the same time, focus on discussing and sharing experiences in marine management, marine economy, marine environment, especially on reasonable orientation between 2 sides until 2025 and vision to 2030.
