The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has launched the "Scientific and Technological Research to Achieve Net-Zero Emissions in Viet Nam" initiative, Program KC.16/24-30, or the Net Zero Science and Technology Program.

Minister of MOST Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized that this program complements other national science and technology initiatives to advance green technologies and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These efforts align with Viet Nam's commitment at the COP26 Conference, reflecting the country's dedication to sustainable development.

The Net Zero Science and Technology Program is a platform to develop groundbreaking carbon capture and storage solutions, greenhouse gas reduction, and green economic transformation. It seeks to improve Viet Nam's environmental quality, foster innovation in green technology, create jobs, and enhance the nation's competitiveness while promoting sustainable growth and development.

Delegates announced scientific and technological research to serve the goal of achieving zero net emissions in Viet Nam.

The program sets out 3 key objectives:

First, policy development: Provide scientific and practical evidence to inform mechanisms, policies, standards, and solutions, enhancing the efficiency of state management related to Viet Nam's net-zero emissions goal.

Second, green and circular economy: Propose models and strategies for green, circular, and low-carbon economic development, along with human resource initiatives to support the net-zero target.

Third, technology advancement: Focus on research, innovation, and the transfer of advanced technologies to manage greenhouse gas emissions, develop green and circular solutions, optimize energy consumption, and advance carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies.

MOST calls on businesses, science and technology organizations, researchers, and experts to submit proposals under this program. Phase 1 proposals are due by January 10, 2025, for immediate deployment of science and technology tasks starting in 2025.
