The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference "Science for Peace", with the theme "Water security and insecurity - rebuilding peaceful coexistence with science" opened in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province.
Lasting from September 11 to 13, the conference gathered more than 60 scientists and young parliamentarians representing 18 countries around the world. The conference brings together scientists, researchers, managers and young parliamentarians from Viet Nam, Asia - Pacific, Africa, and other regions of the world to share knowledge and present research results and discussions on issues related to water source security and insecurity. Within the framework of the Conference, there will be 9 discussion sessions with in-depth topics such as: science and politics, earth observation programs to monitor water resources…
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hai - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, said that Viet Nam is implementing many other solutions such as: planning, water regulation, and water transfer in river basins; Investing in resources and developing infrastructure to ensure water source security; Scientific and technological solutions in forecasting, construction and operation of, water storage, and water transfer projects... Viet Nam has proactively and actively proposed activities and participated in global initiatives of IPU. Viet Nam highly appreciates the efforts and initiatives of the IPU as a global inter-parliamentary cooperation mechanism, which has supported and closely coordinated with the Viet Nam National Assembly to promote the role of parliamentary cooperation.
