On August 3, in Ha Noi, the Department of Water Resources Management in collaboration with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) organized a workshop on "Sustainable water resource management in Australia - Lessons learned". He workshop has an important meaning on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Australia (February 26, 1973 - February 26, 2023).
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Director General of the Department of Water Resources Management Ngo Manh Ha said that in the process of developing the Draft Law on Water Resources (amended), the Department of Water Resources Management sent many delegations to visit study some countries in the world, especially Australia, a country with a scarcity of water resources and advanced water governance in the world. The Department has exchanged and learned a lot of experience in water resource management, planning and drought management, and integrated management.
Through the Workshop, the Department of Water Resources Management expected the experts of the two countries to exchange, discuss and share experiences on water resource management; At the same time, this is the first step to connect, create networks, build capacity, strengthen the bilateral relationship between both countries and better understand Australia's water management models and policies. Thereby, improving capacity in designing, applying and implementing on the basis of the best practice model approach on water resource management in Viet Nam.
At the workshop, experts from the two countries exchanged a number of contents related to: River basin planning in Viet Nam; approach; sharing knowledge and experience in implementing Australia's water law reform; Sustainable management of Viet Nam's water resources in the context of climate change... Thereby, the delegates proposed experiences in water sector reform towards achieving the results and common goals of sustainable water resource management.
